You have to apply to receive the rebate check

The only way to obtain the Child Tax Rebate is by applying to the Department of Revenue Services ("DRS"). The application can be made online using THIS link.

Paper application is not being accepted. The Child Tax Rebate is not a credit and may not be claimed on any CT income tax return. The deadline to apply is July 31, 2022.

The child tax rebate is available to those who satisfy the following conditions:

First, must be a resident of Connecticut at the time of filing the application. Second, must have filed the 2021 Federal tax return and claimed at least one child under 18 years of age as a dependent on that return. Finally, must satisfy income criteria - Adjusted gross income on tax filing should be below $109,000 for a single filer, $169,000 for the head of household, and $209,000 if filing as "Married filing jointly.

Rebate check vs. Earned Income Tax Credit

This is a one-time check expected to be mailed sometime in August. Receiving the child tax rebate does not impact eligibility under any other financial assistance from the state or the Earned Income Tax credit. There is also a phase-out based on income. Those making over $100,000 as single filers, $160,000 as head of household, and $200,000 as married filing jointly will get reduced amounts.
